Abstract:

Objective To study the effects of leaf aqueous extraction Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. on brain impairment in diabetic rats.

Methods The diabetic model was through a high fat forage and STZ intravenous injection in wistar rats. The contents of SOD, MDA, NO in brain after drug treatment were determined.

Results The activity of SOD decreased significantly and the contents of MDA and NO increased greatly in the model groups. The results were reversed after treatment by aqueous extract of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bge. leaf and the blood glucose decreased and body weight increased after medication.

Conclusion The aqueous extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. leaf can protect the diabetic brain by increasing the activity of antioxidase, inhibiting the peroxidation and regulating the NO production of brain.
